Hi Joe,

One of the IRC networks I frequent does this, and I find that it works
very well indeed.  Those who know a specific server they wish to
connect to can find it easily.  Those who don't care join the pool of
people hitting the list of CNAMES, and so the server owners benefit
from a sort of poor-mans load balancing.
