simple question

and maybe silly

  i had an old pc. I got a new  pc [a little faster) ,
and just put on the old disk. it was  fine except the
network. 
  when i ping even local address (127.0.0.1, or the
computer 10.0.0.x) i get 'Network is unreachable'

                     thank you

p.s. i tried a linux live cd, and i got through
