Is anyone interested in/know anyone interested in doing a 2-4 hour consultancy session in London helping a Linux/BSD using company to change passwords and deal with server security issues.

The fee would be 200 pounds. Ther could be further ongoing work.

  Regards

Subject: Correct permissions on /var/tmp
Reply-To: Frank Shute

Well, I spent a fairly happy Xmas playing with my new toy.

In my last missive I described how I wanted to move stuff from /var to
/usr/var but I then ran into a problem with /var/tmp

Both X and gconf want to write temporary files there but there was a
permission problem.

To fix I did:

# chmod 777 /var/tmp

Can somebody tell me what the correct permissions for /var/tmp is?

This is on:

FreeBSD melon.veggie.com 6.0-RELEASE-p1 FreeBSD 6.0-RELEASE-p1 #2: Sun Dec 25 14:01:18 GMT 2005 root at melon.veggie.com:/usr/obj/usr/src/sys/MELON i386

TIA

All tmp directories should be 1777. The extra "1" in front means that
you can't delete files that you don't own.

It was working at 6:30 this morning; took a couple of retries, but I
expect that pretty much and run all my cvsup processes with "-r 20".

If there is a problem I'd expect it to be transient. In my experience
it has always been fixed seconds after I complained to someone about it,
so perhaps you're in luck :)

ftp.uk.freebsd.org also seems to be unavaiable. It seems its a plig.net
related problem?
