Hi Henrik,

I have encountered the same problem in the past, as softupdates use a 
memory cache for performance.  You can get around this by setting the 
"sync" flag in your fstab on filesystems you wish to force syncing on. 
You should note that on heavily used drives this will probably give a 
performance hit.

 From the mount man page:

sync    All I/O to the file system should be done synchronously.
