It's quite handy for situations when something starts eating alot of
disk... Say for example /tmp gets large and takes up all the
mountpoint, if you have a seperate /var you don't suddenly start
loosing logs. Or possibly more useful, the reverse when logs eat up a
mountpoint and you can no longer create temp files :)
