xsane and permissions

Hello,

I can't get sane working for ordinary users, though it works ok for root: as
an ordinary user (member of wheel) the scanner is not detected. The backend
is mustek_pp and uname -a shows

bash-2.05b$ uname -a
FreeBSD potato.hogsedge.org 5.1-CURRENT FreeBSD 5.1-CURRENT #2: Sat Oct 4
15:01:44 BST 2003
root at potato.hogsedge.org:/usr/src/sys/i386/compile/POTATO i386
bash-2.05b$

I installed sane-backends and xsane from recently cvsupped ports a couple of
days ago: since then I've been googling, but I can only find linux advice
which doesn't apply.

Can anyone help?

Thanks a lot,
Ben
