You'll find reviews of beginners books at:
http://www.accu.org/bookreviews/public/reviews/0hr/beginner_s_c.htm

General advice on learning a programming language:
http://www.accu.org/resources/public/terse/learn.htm

Dig around the ACCU (Association of C and C++ Users) site a bit and
you'll come across many links to other places.

The comp.lang.c FAQis likely to be of great use to you:
http://www.eskimo.com/~scs/C-faq/top.html

I strongly recommend buying K&R if you are learning C.
