You tend to need proof of income to get a mortgage. If you are doing
contract work with nothing on ppare, merely a handshake and the occasional
ten grand cheque written out to you personaly then building societies are
somewhat suspicious. Having the contract proves to them that you do actually
have some form of paid employment.
Of course its all a nonsense as the contract can be torn up as
soon ad the bank/building society give you the cash - and even if
it wasnt it hardly guarantees income for twenty years - but they do
like to see it.
