Sorry that was misleading. First thing I see on the serial port is:
>> FreeBSD/i386 BOOT
Default: 0:ad(0,a)/boot/loader
boot:
Console: serial port
...
The F1/F2 menu appears on the screen attached to the computer.
I guess this means loader+kernel+ttyd0 but not boot0.
