ahh, forgot that!

heres what I did - I remounted root onto /mnt read-write as I recall.

so your slash should be on /dev/ad1s2a - in that case you
shoudl be able to get at it as /dev/as1s2... try and fsck that
devvice to see if it is there.

then mount it - "mount /dev/ad1s2 /mnt"

go into /mnt/dev and create the devices you want.
