PCI modems and freebsd

Check through /usr/src/sys/isa/sio.c and at line 516 or so under -stable
you'll see a list of pci modems and serial cards that freebsd recognises
by default. If you find another PCI hardware modem then feel free to
add it to the list (like I did the SmartLink one ;)
