installing KDE

OK I'll get my son to copy the CD and send it to you, as I have to reinstall
(I'm adding another harddisk on that machine) myself I could send you the
details about how I install.
By the way I can't give much advice about data because I don't know how your
system is set up, I have for example in every computer various harddisks
that have the system on them and others that have data then it's easy to change
system things because the data stays the same.
If it's only text data then it's easy, but if it's settings as well then
it's possible that it could be more complicated, I intend to save the /root
directory on the windows computer next door and the directories of other "users"
(me + my son) /home/dave etc.
Then after I've reinstalled I think it might be possible if I copy the home
things back in that the settings for x + my alias's etc in the new
installation, that they take effect.
