Not sure it needs to be recognised - its just a serial
device. Miracom Couriers have always worked excellently for
me, under various flavours of BSD including 4.1. Works
pretty much out of the box just by adding the phone number into
/etc/ppp/ppp.conf and enabling ppp in /etc/rc.conf

They are superb modems too - will connect to absolutely anything
even under some very poor line conditions.
