I have recently installed FreeBSD and have spent hours learning how to =
install ports, extract tar balls, re-compile the kernel ect ... =
basically my problem is that no mater what I do I cannot get PPP to =
connect, or even talk to my modem correctly (Hayes 2400)

It appears to work, it accesses the modem, I hear the dial tone, then =
..... nothing. After 10 seconds or so the modem hangs up with the =
message 'no dial tone' or no carrier. I have checked the ppp log but as =
I am a new user to FreeBSD it doesn't relay make much sense to me.

I have checked all the relevant config files and they all seem fine. =
(created from samples)=20

I need to get this working so I can install various ports for witch I do =
not have the distfiles. I do not have the tat balls on my cd either. =20

when I try to install packages, they fail on the first distfile (9e.1.0) =
even if I copy the file from my cd-rom (I have /ports/all on CD-rom from =
ftp site) Am I using the incorrect version of the packages, do I need =
to update my 4.2 version of BSD to 4-STABLE first.

can anybody please help me!!!!!!!

I am just about ready to throw out my NT sever and replace it with BSD, =
but I need help!!!
