Those are "release candidates" (hence the "rc").  rc1 was the first
release candidate, rc2 is the most recent.

They are very close to what will be 4.4, but there might still be some
minor polishing or last minute bugs to be fixed.  The aim of making the
RC images available is so that people like yourself can download them,
install from them, and then let the project know if you discover any
problems.
