Perl 5.6

I've got to the point where I'll need to start using Perl 5.6 (for
compatibility between systems at work). Given that 4.1-STABLE has 5.005 I
was wondering what would be the best way to manage this. Some
possibilities that come to mind:

1) Install Perl 5.6 alongside the system Perl (e.g. in /usr/local). Is
this practical?

2) Add NOPERL=true to my make.conf and install 5.6 as my system Perl. I
guess this will break all the Perl ports but would it cause any other
problems?

3) Wait for 5.6 to be MFC'ed from 5.0-CURRENT. Anybody know if there are
plans to do this anytime soon?

Any suggestions/advice on the best method of using 5.6 on a 4.1 system
would be most welcome. Many thanks.
