Postfix problem

Hopefully someone can shed some light on this for me....

I have today rebuilt my workstation with 4.0 (having trashed RH 6.2).  I'm 
trying to get Postfix working with Fetchmail/Procmail.  All have been
installed from the ports collection.

Running Fetchmail using a previously working .fetchmailrc produces the
following log entries;

May 27 10:51:48 carrot postfix/smtpd[23213]: fatal: connect #11 to subsystem pri
vate/cleanup: Permission denied
May 27 10:51:49 carrot postfix/master[210]: warning: process /usr/local/libexec/
postfix/smtpd pid 23213 exit status 1
May 27 10:51:49 carrot postfix/master[210]: warning: /usr/local/libexec/postfix/
smtpd: bad command startup -- throttling

Any and all suggestions gratefully received.  Deleting the package and
installing from source *is* an option if that is thought to be best.
