Hello all.

I'm currently suffering a spate of machine crashes on my FreeBSD box
@ home.... The story so far -

FreeBSD 3.4 started to suffer increasingly serious disk errors,
eventually resulting in total failure of boot disk. I replaced the disk,
and installed 4.0-Release.

The machine is still suffering, although am able to quantify the nature
of the errors a little more. The machine will generally hang when there
is much sustained disk activity, particularly with large files, eg
decoding an .mp3

(a related issue is that I have/had an ext2fs formatted partition
containing much audio data which, as a result of numerous unscheduled
reboots, BSD is now unable to fix..... I have also tried to repair it
using RHL6.1. Fsck on either OS is unable to repair.... any ideas?)

I am inclined to believe that I have a machine in desparate need of
replacement, but if anyone can suggest any diagnostic tools beyond fsck,
I'd be most pleased to hear about them....

Attached is dmesg.

Cheers,

Guy
