I suspect that what would happen if this came to pass is that a lot of the
people who are currently members of "FreeBSD UK User Group" (ie. they put
their name on a web page and signed up to a mail list at no cost!) would
pass on paying =A335pa - either the free (beer-not-speech-sense) FreeBSD
group would continue to exist in rump or parallel form, or the less
committed / less wealthy would drift off.

That is not to say that a FreeBSD SIG of the UKUUG is a bad idea, or that
there wouldn't be considerable overlap between it and the more active and
committed members of FreeBSD UKUG. Personally I'd be keen on a UKUUG SIG,
and I wouldn't mind joining up to UKUUG (I probably ought to anyway ...),
but I just think that you are kidding yourself if you thing that everyone
currently in this group would follow en-masse.

Regards,

Neil.
