4.x is not a branch, it's just a release from the head. 3.x is a branch.
</pedantic mode>

4.x will continue to be -current and 3.x will continue to be -stable
until 5.x is created, then 3.x will suddenly become non-stable.

Far be it from me to second guess a perl script, but I would expect to
see one or two more 3.x releases before 4.x becomes the new -stable
