It might not even involve cash - WC let the UKUUG use CD 1 as a cover
disk for no fee.  This isn't just altruism.  All it costs is writing
back "Yes you may".  The distributing organisation carries the CD
replication costs.  It certainly makes people more aware of FreeBSD.
Some will use it.  Some of those will start buying CD sets.  Very cheap
and effective advertising.
